View Article  Do I need Vista?

The big question! Do I need Vista?

Well lets face the real life scenario. You will need to replace your existing computer when it breaks or becomes out of date to modern technology. At this time if you are a Windows user then you will join the other 90% of computer users across the world today and buy another Windows operating system computer. At this time you will have no choice other than buying a computer with Vista installed on it as Windows XP is no loger available. Another win win situation for Microsoft!

I was a tester forMicorosft on Vista for months before it's release. The obvious problem areas were immediate. Hardware is going to be the biggest upgrade with Vista. The minimum reccomendations from Microsoft Vista are apauling allthough will allow it to work at snails pace. Once again the big high street stores are selling Vista systems that, in my opinion, are lacking serious hardware requirements. (I have already visited two customers where I have had to upgrade hardware on their NEW Vista systems to allow it to run smoothly!)

So face up to reality and get ready for Vista! If you are a Vista user once again let us know your thoughts......

View Article  Free Art packages

Free art packages? Oh Yes! I personally am fed up with paying huge costs for software. Photoshop type software is available less the huge price tag.

The first program available is The GIMP (dont ask me about the name!) It is downloadable from their website, please make sure you follow their instructions to install correctly. http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html Note this is the Windows installer page so if you are using a mac or linux operationg system please go to http://www.gimp.org/downloads  and choose your required system download.

Note that the help file is a seperate download to be added once The GIMP is installed to your computer and is available from the same download pages.

If this package is not to your liking you can try PAINT.NET, downloadable at http://www.getpaint.net/index2.html. This is similar to The GIMP but slighlty more basic in approach.

For both these software packages there are forums where others can assist you and also help files to assist you in certain areas.

It's true what they say! You are never to old to learn!!! so dont be afraid!! Once again let me know your thoughts........

Free Anti Virus software for home users.....so why are you paying for it?

Grisift AVG Free edition anti virus is a superb option for your computer. Major retail stores push sales of expensive software packages which the unknowing customer pays for and then pays again for every reoccuring year.

Do you use AVG? If so lets us know your thoughts.. Suprisingly enough the majority of virus attacked computers that I see and regularly repair actually have expensive virus software installed, normally from one provider often seen advertised on television so take note!

Latest version download link available on my download page at www.pcassistnow.co.uk.
